Modern cloth nappies from birth have nothing in common with muslin squares and safety pins. The Kaaka® nappies at LIINI® fasten with hook-and-loop tabs, grow with your baby thanks to the adjustable fastening and don't need a cover. After a change, they go in the wash and then straight back into use.

How Kaaka® cloth nappies are made

Every nappy uses the 7-layer Poo Dry® technology made from cotton, bamboo viscose and polyester. This includes a 3-layer bamboo absorbent core and a 2-layer waterproof membrane. The Poo Dry® technology draws moisture away from the skin, while the membrane keeps everything in. That's why the nappy doesn't need a separate cover. You adjust the hook-and-loop fastening to fit, so the nappy grows with your baby within its size.

Washing and accessories

Kaaka® recommends washing every 2 days, on a 60 °C coloured wash. Don't bleach, iron or dry-clean them. You can dry the nappies on the line or in the tumble dryer on a gentle cycle.

To make everyday life easier:

  • Adjust the nappy so it fits snugly but doesn't dig in anywhere.
  • Tip any solids into the toilet before you put the nappy aside for washing. A compostable liner makes this easier.
  • Keep used nappies in a wet bag until wash day.

Accessories available:

  • Laundry strips as detergent, in supplies for 60, 180 or 300 washes
  • Dryer balls in a set of 3 for the tumble dryer
  • Compostable nappy liners
  • Wet bags in large and small
  • Baby wipes

When you're out, take the small wet bag with you, for example in a diaper backpack with a separate wet compartment.

Frequently asked questions

How many cloth nappies do I need?

That depends on how often you wash and how often your baby needs changing. Newborns need a fresh nappy more often than older babies. Kaaka® recommends washing every 2 days. The full set Size 0 contains 12 nappies, and the Size 1 set contains 8 nappies. If you'd like to try them out first, start with the trial set of 3 nappies.

How do I wash the nappies properly?

Wash Kaaka® nappies on a 60 °C coloured wash, ideally every 2 days. Don't bleach, iron or dry-clean them. Afterwards, dry them on the line or on a gentle cycle. As a detergent, you can use the laundry strips from the accessories range.

Do I need a cover?

No. Kaaka® nappies have a 2-layer waterproof membrane and don't need a separate cover. Put the nappy on, close the hook-and-loop fastening, and you're done.

When do I need Size 1?

Size 0 fits from birth, for 3 to 6 kg. Size 1 is designed for 6 to 10 kg, from approx. 3 months. Go by your baby's weight and how the nappy fits: if your baby is getting close to 6 kg, or the nappy feels tight even on the loosest setting, it's time for Size 1.

Is it worth it financially?

That depends on what you pay for detergent, water and electricity, how long your child is in nappies, and whether you'll use them for another child. Weigh the cost of the sets and the washing against the disposable nappies you would otherwise buy. On top of that, with Kaaka® nappies you avoid several thousand disposable nappies.
